Privacy Policy

The short version: CurrencyHover reads prices only when you ask it to (on Android while price tags are switched on, on iPhone when you send it a screenshot or open the price camera), works them out on your phone, and never sends your screen to us or anyone else. There is no CurrencyHover account, no advertising and no tracking. This page covers CurrencyHover on Android and on iPhone.
1. What the app reads, and when
CurrencyHover uses Android's Accessibility service, which you switch on yourself after agreeing to an in-app explanation of what it reads. With it, the app can:
- Read the text shown by the app in front, but only while price tags are switched on (with the floating bubble, the Quick Settings tile, or Auto-on for apps you chose), so it can find prices.
- Take a screenshot for text recognition, if "Also read prices inside images" is on, to find prices drawn in pictures or maps.
- Check which app is in front, so Auto-on can switch tags on in the apps you added and off elsewhere. Only the app's name is used.
In Price camera, the app reads the camera image, after you grant the camera permission.
On iPhone there is no Accessibility service, and the app cannot see other apps or your screen. It reads only:
- A screenshot or photo you give it: one you share to CurrencyHover from the share sheet, pick inside the app, or pass to its Shortcuts action (for example from a Back Tap shortcut you set up).
- The camera image, while the price camera is open, after you allow camera access.
2. How it is used
Only to find prices and show them converted, on your phone. Screen text, screenshots and camera images are processed in memory and then discarded. They are never stored, logged or transmitted, by CurrencyHover or by us.
Text recognition uses Google's ML Kit library, which runs on the phone. As described in Google's ML Kit data disclosure, the library sends Google basic diagnostics about how the feature performs: device model and Android version, the app's name and version, a per-installation identifier that is not meant to identify you, and timings, sizes and error codes. Google uses these for diagnostics and usage analytics, encrypts them in transit and does not pass them to third parties. They describe how the feature ran, not what was on your screen.
On iPhone, text recognition uses Apple's Vision framework, which runs on the iPhone itself. Images are read in memory and discarded; they are not stored or sent anywhere.
3. What stays on your phone
Your settings, the list of Auto-on apps, your trip log and the cached exchange rates are kept in the app's private storage. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes them. If backup is switched on in your phone's settings, Android can include your settings and trip log in your own Google backup, which Google handles under its privacy policy and which we cannot read.
On iPhone, the same things are kept in the app's private storage, shared only with its own widget and share extension. They are included in your iPhone backups, which Apple handles under its privacy policy and which we cannot read. Deleting the app removes them from the iPhone.
4. What we receive
Nothing. CurrencyHover has no account or sign-in, no analytics of its own, no advertising identifiers and no server of ours. It does not track you across apps or websites. The iPhone app's App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected", and the privacy manifest inside it declares no collected data and no tracking.
5. Internet use
The app downloads the exchange-rate table from ExchangeRate-API (open.er-api.com) and, if that is unavailable, from the free currency-api project (cdn.jsdelivr.net and currency-api.pages.dev). These requests carry no personal data; like any web request, those services see your IP address.
6. Children
CurrencyHover is not directed at children.
7. This website
This site is static and sets no cookies. It loads Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies, without fingerprinting, and without storing anything that identifies you.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you. For CurrencyHover we hold none. If you have emailed us, we hold that correspondence; write to the address under Contact and we will act on it. For your Google backup or Google Account, Google is the controller; for your iPhone backups or Apple Account, Apple is.
9. Changes
If our data practices change, this page and its date will change first, and the app's release notes will say so plainly.
